Valiants roll past Pats in season opener

August 10, 2018

Darcee Brown allowed three hits and the Valwood softball team started its season strongly with a 10-2 run-rule victory against the Citizens Christian Academy Patriots on Thursday.

The Valiants played error-free defense, backing up Brown. Natalie Rojas and Bri Fosdick both made standout defensive plays in the infield.

“I believe we performed well as we are settling into our new season,” senior Emily Taylor said. “We can only build on what happened today, and I’d say what happened today was pretty darn good.”

Valwood has three seniors determined to make this their best year yet.

“I’ve been very anxious for my senior season for three years, and it’s finally arrived,” Taylor said. “I strive to set the best example in leadership and also in friendship. I believe a personal bond between all teammates strengthens and unifies a team on and off the field.”

The Patriots jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but were held scoreless the rest of the way.

Four Valiants tallied multiple hits, while the five remaining batters each had one.

Valwood takes the field again Tuesday in Camilla.
