Valwood Athletics

The athletic program at Valwood School is student-centered and an integral part of the student’s total educational experience. The program is designed to provide positive learning opportunities for each student who participates. Students benefit from the development of physical fitness, leadership, teamwork, social skills, self-discipline and integrity. Athletic participation also promotes decision-making skills, good citizenship, good sportsmanship, and maturity. These characteristics assist in the development of individual and team attitudes that are beneficial for a successful season and for future life.

Varsity, B-team, Middle School, and Junior Pro are offered in various sports. Depending on the grade level of the student, they may have the opportunity to participate in the following sports: football, softball, volleyball, cross country, cheerleading, basketball. wrestling, swim, soccer, tennis, track, baseball, and/or tennis.

Sports Physical Form

In order to be certified eligible to participate in GIAA athletic and academic competition, each year Valwood student-athletes in grades 8-12 must have a Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation Form on file with the school prior to the first day of classes.

In addition, Valwood students in grades 5 through 7 are also required to have an annual Physical Evaluation on file. This ensures that all of our students have physician approval to participate in Junior Pro or Middle School sports programs. Fourth grades students may be required to provide a Physical Evaluation if they elect to represent Valwood in a community youth sports league.

Physical Evaluations should be completed annually during the summer months and submitted to the Administrative office in Crane Hall prior to the start of school each August. This timeline allows us to have required documentation in hand prior to fall sports pre-season conditioning and practices and ensures accurate eligibility certification.
