Valwood School Competes at Region Science Olympiad Competition

HAHIRA, GA – February 7, 2026 – The Valwood Science Olympiad team traveled to the University of North Georgia in Gainesville on Saturday, February 7th, to compete in a regional Science Olympiad tournament. Students competed in 23 events against public and private schools from across the state. Overall, the team placed 8th out of 21 teams and finished first out of the single A schools. Valwood qualified for the state tournament which will be held on April 4th at Georgia Tech. 

Individual medalists were: Bungee Drop - 1st place (Richard Hunter, Will Trickett), 4th place (Nicholas Alvarado, Matt Trickett); Dynamic Planet - 5th place (Richard Hunter, Sam Ofori); Hovercraft - 1st place (Sam Ofori, Zachary Routsong); and Machines - 5th place (Jed Respess, Abby O'Neal). 
Other team members are Presley Allen, Haley Hardy, Katie Min, William Holloway, Carolyn Griner, Jane Hinton, Ansley Holmes, Anishka Patel, Zachary Routsong, Soloman Hardy, Ashlyn Johnson, Isabelle Fann, Hobby Houston, Sara Daugherty, Chapman Dasher, Marli Kate Moorman, Charlie Watt, Mary Blake McLeod, Carrigan Collins, Tyler Lightfoot, Westin Zickos. The team is coached by Danielle Guillot and Joy Owens.
