Valwood’s Lower School is where a love of learning begins. It is a community where children develop a life-long love of learning as they build their self-esteem and cultivate their talents; a place where students are provided an atmosphere conducive to learning in a stimulating and nurturing environment. The lower school includes Pre-K through fifth grades.
Developing a Thirst for Knowledge
Lower School faculty brings the student’s world into the classroom, creating excitement by filling their home-away-from-home with adventure and challenge. We strive to instill in our students the desire to perform to their fullest potential and to develop in them that thirst for knowledge which leads to success and fulfillment.
Empowering Growth
Each grade presents a class play where everyone participates and has a mini public-speaking experience that will serve them well as they mature. Lower school students also experience cross-grade interactions, when students from the upper and middle schools come and read to them or spend time in their classrooms.
In the Lower School, we believe in celebrating childhood and all of the moments that make it so special.
Curriculum
Reading, writing, and critical thinking skills play a prominent role in our rigorous curriculum. Additionally, your child will have classes in choral and instrumental music, art, science, Spanish, technology, and library which are incorporated into our core curriculum.
