Valwood softball blanks Brookwood by run-rule

The Valwood softball team earned its third region win with an 8-0 run-rule win in six innings against the Brookwood Warriors on Thursday.

Darcee Brown surrendered just one hit and one walk, while striking out seven and helping the Valiants improve their GISA Region 3-3A record to 3-1.

Natalie Rojas started the game with a hit. A pair of walks drawn by Graceigh Booth and Emily Taylor, and Ansley Bennett drawing a walk after being hit in the back scored the first run.

Ansley Haskard singled to left field, scoring two. She advanced to second on the throw and Valwood finished the inning with a 4-0 lead.

Brown singled to left field in the fourth. Clare Nijem entered the game to run for the pitcher. Rojas hit a long fly ball to the center fielder and reached on an error, scoring Nijem.

One run was scored in the fifth, then the Valiants got hot in the sixth, putting two more across the plate before the game was called.

Seniors Taylor and Haskard led the Valiants’ offense. Taylor was 2 for 2 with two walks and Haskard was 2 for 3. Bri Fosdick, Rojas, Bennett, Mary Clare Martin and Brown all added one hit each.

The Valiants face region rival Southland Academy in Americus on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and return home Thrusday to host the Deerfield Windsor Knights at 4 p.m.
