Valwood junior Sara Knighton recently earned the 2015 Congressional Award Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals, the highest youth awards presented by the United States Congress.
Knighton was one of only two students from Georgia to earn the awards, which are based on completing goals and achievements in volunteering in the community, personal development, physical fitness and exploration. She received the bronze and silver medals in the mail and will travel to Washington, D.C., next June to accept her gold medal.
