September 15, 2018

The Valwood Valiants rallied from a nine-point fourth quarter deficit to beat the Heritage Hawks 28-24 on Friday night in Newnan.

Trailing 24-15 in the fourth quarter, the Valiants (4-1) hit the comeback trail. A 50-yard TD pass from Burns brought the Valiants within two, 24-22 with 11:34 left in the fourth quarter.

Burns connected with Tyler Cross for the go-ahead score with 2:24 remaining and the Valiants held the rest of the way.

Heritage led 17-7 at halftime and a 20-yard touchdown run by Hawks quarterback Henry Arnall made it 24-15 with 3:43 to go in the third quarter.

The Hawks took control early when Patrick Griffies picked off Burns and returned it for a touchdown in the first quarter. With 10:17 left in the second quarter, the Hawks went ahead 10-7 on a Peter Neil field goal.

After scoring just seven points in last week’s loss to North Florida Christian, the Valiants scored 13 points in the fourth quarter on Friday.
