Valiants Defeat Tiftarea Panthers
August 28, 2010

The Valwood Valiants stunned the Tiftarea Panthers with a 25-21 win Friday night in Chula. Head football coach, Brannon Tidwell said everyone was excited and the team was going crazy on the bus.  After trailing 14-0 in the third quarter, the Valiants got on the board when running back Alex Waldron threw a halfback pass to Rashad Mathis for a 35-yard touchdown. Tiftarea fumbled the ensuing kickoff, and Valwood  turned it into three points when J.B. Bahnsen knocked in a 22-yard field goal to make it 14-10. Tiftarea stole the momentum back with a 70-yard screen play that went for a touchdown to make it 21-10. But the final 15 points were scored by Valwood. The Valiants drove down the field and capped off a drive when Bahnsen hit Mathis for a touchdown. Waldron ran in the two-point conversion to make it 21-18.The Valiants took their first lead of the game when Bahnsen scored on a quarterback sneak later in the fourth. Up 25-21, Valwood's defense had to make one last stand. Tiftarea drove down to the Valwood 9, but after a penalty on second down and three incomplete passes, Tiftarea turned the ball over on downs.Valwood  ran out the clock for their second regular season win under Tidwell.
