Valwood seventh grader, Carter Elliott qualified for state recognition in the Duke University Talent Identification 2009 Talent Search. This year there were 6,130 students from Georgia participating in the search. Of this number, 2,008 students qualified for state recognition. Mr. Elliott attended the 2009 Georgia Recognition Ceremony, held at Georgia Southern University (GSU) in Statesboro, where he received a medal from keynote speaker Dr. Steven T. Engel. Dr. Engel is the Director of the University Honors Program and associate professor of Political Science at GSU. Mr. Elliott is the son of Jim and Susan Elliott of Valdosta.
