Valwood Middle School sponsored its second annual PlayWithYourFood day on March 6. The event raised over 2450 pounds of food for Second Harvest Food Bank. Students participated in the activity with their advisory groups. The students met prior to the event day and planned out an item they intended to build. The students gathered the different food items needed to build their sculptures, all of which would be donated to the food bank after the event. The winner was Ms. Laffitte's advisory group who built a bathtub complete with rubber ducks; runner-up was Blanton's advisory group who built a long, windy train. Mr. Babcock's group was awarded "highest sculpture" with their throne and Ms. Glassmire's group was awarded "most creative." Ms. Carter's group made a Valwood Valiant out of silver pea cans and won "Most School Spirit," while Mr. Riven's group won "Most Items Used" with their house made out of cereal boxes. The middle school students had a great time but also helped out a wonderful cause, helping to feed many people in the region.
