Each year Valwood's Lower School students look forward to participating in the American Heart Association community project, "Jump Rope for Heart." The students learn how to fight heart disease through exercise (jumping rope) and a healthy diet. The fifth graders set a monetary goal and all of the Lower School students work to make the goal and surpass it. The students realized their goal of $9,000 this year and donated their Heart Association thank you gifts to the children staying at the Ronald McDonald House. With bull horn in hand, Physical Education teacher Ms. Sarah Dewar leads the students in a celebration on the Dasher Quad each year. Throughout the fifteen years that Valwood has supported this project, the students have raised over $100,000 for the fight against heart disease.
