Valwood's parent association teamed up with a group of teachers to organize a field day like no other. Instead of focusing on athletics, this field day aimed at helping kids realize that everyone has special skills or talents and can contribute to a team's success.
Teams of multi-age students rotated through a series of activities that were designed to make use of various cognitive and motor skills. However, cooperation was the key to success. There were obstacle courses, large puzzles to solve - some without a picture, and things to create and build.
The day allowed kids to meet other kids and learn from each other. They had to solve problems with children they didn't know, which is a real life skill.
