Valwood is committed to breaking down the barrier created by affordability. In an effort to open our doors to more families, we offer a financial assistance program that includes two main categories in which a student may qualify.
The first category is a Need Based Financial Assistance. In this category we offer several programs targeting different income levels in an effort to increase affordability. These awards are described in more detail below. For each of these, filing a Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) with School and Student Services (SSS) is required.
The second category is a scholarship based on academic merit and performance. With these awards, the income of the family is not taken into consideration, therefore filing with SSS is not required.
Need Based Financial Assistance:
- General Financial Aid - This program is designed to help meet the needs of families whose income generally falls below $85,000 per year. Awards are generally 75% or less of tuition and depend on both the income and expenses within the family as well as the number of students enrolled in a tuition charging school.
- Tuition Tax Credit Scholarship Program HB133 (GOAL) - This new state of Georgia Tax Credit funded scholarship also helps meet the needs of families whose income falls below $85,000 per year. This award goes to qualified families whose children are transferring from a Georgia Public School or whose children are a qualified Kindergarten student, regardless of where they attended the previous year. The older child must have been enrolled in and currently attending the public school at the time of applying at Valwood. This award can pay up to 85% of tuition and depends on both the income and expenses within the family as well as the size of the family.
- Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) -TAP seeks to provide tuition assistance to middle class families to enable them to enroll their children at the school. Each qualifying student, under this program will receive an annual award of approximately $1000 to defray tuition; the second child in a TAP family receives a small additional award; three children or more also qualify for our multiple child discount. Families with combined annual adjusted gross incomes from $85,000 to $150,000 are encouraged to apply.
Academic Merit Scholarships:
- Betty Googe Merit Scholarship - This scholarship is awarded to incoming students, generally in the Middle and Upper School grades who have demonstrated high academic achievement and strong character. The scholarship provides for 50% of the students tuition. This scholarship continues through graduation as long as the student demonstrates a continued commitment to high achievement and integrity. Students who qualify for this scholarship are invited by to apply by Valwood, once their application for enrollment has been received and reviewed.
