Valwood School Competes in Model United Nations Conference
March 25, 2005


The Valwood School Model United Nations team competed in the Model United Nations Conference held on the Valdosta State University campus on Friday, March 18.  Thirty Two Valwood students participated representing 6 nations; Algeria, Canada, Ireland, Pakistan, Russia and Syria.  The conference also included eight other schools, both private and public, representing nearly 25 other countries.
 
The Valwood students ranked among the top four delegations and three of Valwood's teams received "Distinguished Delegation" honors.  These teams were: Ireland represented by Justin Yanushefski, Danielle McCurdy, Katrina Van Hecke, Lauren Cloud, Daniel Frieden and Sarah Adler; Pakistan represented by Andy Slater, Lauren Bailey, Kim Carlon, Darby Gooding, and David Keck; and Canada represented by Will Elliott, Jessie Querin, Daniel Keck, Jen Carlon and Stephanie Tillman. 
 
Other honors went to Valwood's position paper writers.  Each delegation presented a position paper for each committee and the moderators of each committee chose the best position papers presented.  All four of the position paper awards were given to Valwood students at this year's conference.  Winners included: Kim Carlon for her work on the HIV/AIDS Conference, Philip Allen for his paper in the Security Council, Will Elliott and Jessie Querin for their work in the General Assembly, and Jen Carlon and Stephanie Tillman in the Disarmament Committee.
