Valwood volleyball topples Frederica Academy, Sherwood Christian

The Valwood volleyball team continued to show its dominance in South Georgia by defeating region rival Frederica Academy on Wednesday and a skilled Sherwood Christian Academy on Thursday night in Hahira.

Frederica Academy came into the match 3-1 in GISA Region 3-3A play, with its only loss in the region to Valwood. Frederica is in a rebuilding year with most of the team being sophomores. Valwood made quick work of the younger Knights by defeating them in straight sets (9-25, 10-25, 8-25).

Valwood freshman setter Kennedy Kimbro had 24 assists, eight digs, and three aces. Senior outside hitter Ellie Stark finished with five digs, 11 aces and eight kills, and senior outside hitter Georgia Booth added four aces and seven kills.

Thursday night was special for the Valiants as they recognized six seniors before playing Sherwood Christian Academy in a non-region match. The Valiant team leaders quickly seized control of the match and showed their dominance as they defeated SCA 7-25 and 8-25.

The third set was more competitive as the Eagles lead the Valiants most of the match, but tough serving and tenacious defense kept the Valiants in the game and allowed them to pull out a tough win 18-25.

Leaders for the Valiants were: Kimbro with 32 assists and five digs; Hanna Dawson with six digs and two aces; Stark with eight digs and 11 kills; Nicole Manwell with 10 digs; Maylee McLeod with seven digs and four aces; Breonna Gaskin with 10 kills and two aces.

The Valiants play their final home game on Thursday, Oct. 12 to wrap up their region schedule.
